Live embossing at Goodwood: how MINI gave guests a keepsake they made themselves
By Joel Sharp

Most brand activations ask guests to watch. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, MINI asked them to make something. Working with TRO Group on behalf of MINI UK, our live embossing team set up on the MINI stand and spent the weekend helping guests press their own design into a leather keyring, then walk away with it.
What live embossing actually is
The idea is simple. A guest picks a design from a small menu, positions it on a blank leather or PU leather keyring, and presses it themselves on a proper embossing press. The whole thing takes a minute or two, and the result is a clean, professional finish that looks like it came out of a workshop, not a pop-up.
The difference from a giveaway is that the guest did it. They chose the design, they pulled the handle, and the keyring in their pocket is one they made. That's a very different thing to keep than a branded pen.
Why it worked on the MINI stand
A stand at Goodwood is competing with supercars, hill climbs and a lot of noise. What draws a crowd isn't the press itself, it's the queue of people holding up something they've just made, and the reactions when the leather comes out of the press. Our team's job is to keep that energy going all day: welcoming people in, keeping the pace up, and keeping everything safe around a hot press with children about.
There's a practical side too. Events change on the day. Artwork gets tweaked, timings move, someone needs an extra design at short notice. Being able to sort that on the spot is a big part of why the activation ran smoothly.
What TRO Group said
We loved working with Merch Hive, they really did feel like a part of the team and brought the energy and importantly safety and fun to the stand. Their amazing last-minute support was so patient and overwhelmingly helpful as well as the keyrings looking professional, clean and spot-on. They really added to the experience with their cheery attitude and beautiful products, we look forward to seeing what else we can work on together.

Where else it fits
Goodwood was a big stage, but live embossing scales down as well as up. We run it at:
- Product launches and brand reveals, where you want people to stay on the stand
- Corporate functions and client events, as a personalised take-home
- Private parties, where the keepsake is the point
- Trade shows, as a reason for people to stop and talk
Keyrings are the most popular item, but the same press works on luggage tags, notebook covers and other leather goods.
Planning an activation?
If you've got an event coming up and want guests to leave with something they'll actually keep, have a look at how live embossing works or request a quotation and we'll talk through designs, numbers and timings.
